Many consciousness researchers now see the brain as a receiver of information rather than a creator. They also suspect that the brain has a filter which stops overload of unnecessary input and just enough to form a belief system able to cope with everyday life.
A UFO sighting or similar is so far from the normal world view that it blows a hole in the filter creating new pathways which will never again be sealed off. It also opens up to a new supraphysical world other than UFOs.
Not only may this expansion include OBEs and psychic abilities like precognition but also extra dimensional lifeforms including ghosts and weird cryptid creatures - a whole menagerie - can find access and flood in.
But the big question is, how can this spread outside the person with the fractured filter and 'infect' others - the famed hitchhiker effect?
There are many instances of psychic links between people - one dies or suffers some trauma and the other somehow knows something's wrong.
Could it be that at a quantum level we are naturally 'entangled' with those close to us - kinsfolk whose lives we share?
Could the 'hitchhiker' weirdness jump across to them?
Maybe these events are just the beginning of a new evolution. Maybe there is a downside of opening wide the filter-door to cosmic consciousness and we must learn how to discern the difference between helpful or unhelpful entities
Just maybe those religious folk who yell 'demons' may be partly correct but they're shunning the dark rather than welcoming the light.
Is that how the world will change - mass enlightenment 'caught' by a few and spread around the population like a positive virus?

In this clip Lue Elizondo touches on the Skinwalker type hitchhiker effect but refers mainly to effects of close contact to UFOs
